Paul Bruce Dickinson se hizo conocido mundialmente en 1982 cuando llegó a ocupar el lugar de Paul Di'Anno como vocalista de Iron Maiden, el más tradicional y representativo exponente del heavy metal inglés. Rápidamente, el ex cantante de Samson se convirtió en la atracción escénica de la banda, consiguiendo el mayor período creativo y comercial de un grupo que es reverenciado como el mejor y más popular exponente del heavy metal mundial. Su carrera en solitario se desarrolló en el tiempo en que la "Doncella de hierro" giraba por el mundo presentando "Seventh son of the seventh son". En 1990 Dickinson editó "Tattooed Millonaire", disco alejado de las espadas, brujas, el fuego y las historias de caballería que siempre interpretó con Iron Maiden y que en 1993 abandonó para regresar en 2003. Le siguieron "Balls to Picasso" (1994), "Accident of birth" (1997) y "The chemical wedding" (1998), entre sus trabajos en solitario más destacados.
