Wooden Wand and the Vanishing Voice is the name of a musical collaboration between James Jackson Toth and Jessica Toth (Wooden Wand) and The Vanishing Voice, a Brooklyn band composed of G. Lucas Crane, Heidi Diehl, and Steven Jarvis Tavaniere. The band members met at Purchase College. Their style of music draws on a variety of both conventional and experimental folk and rock influences, including psych folk, acid folk, freak-folk, free folk, and indie. They have also been classified under the relatively new genre of New Weird America, exemplified by a growing group of artists reviving and adapting the legacy of 1960s and '70s folk music. The Vanishing Voice collaboration is now on indefinite hiatus, and the Toths have dissolved Wooden Wand as a musical entity.
