Kisschasy was formed in 2002. Three of the four members of the band grew up in the small country town of Balnarring in the Mornington Peninsula. Darren Cordeux, the lead singer and guitarist, grew up in Cranbourne in Melbourne, Victoria. Joel Vanderuit bassist, Sean Thomas guitarist and Karl Ammitzboll drummer played in a local band called Tenpin, who achieved a little local success. The formation of Kisschasy happened when Cordeux's band met Joel, Karl and Sean's band Tenpin at the Art House in Melbourne, as well as on the Warped Tour in May 2002. A few months later Joel called Darren and said he wanted to form a band because he liked Darren's voice.
