Shaggy

Poseedor de una distintiva voz, Shaggy (que en inglés significa peludo, desgreñado) es además de artista, hombre de negocios y filántropo. Creció en las calles de Kingston y cuando tenía 18 años su familia se trasladó a Brooklyn. Su disciplina (que él achaca a su bagaje militar) es la base de su éxito. En 1988 se alistó en el Cuerpo de Marines de los Estados Unidos y sirvió en la Operación Tormenta del Desierto durante la Guerra del Golfo Pérsico. Cuando regresó, decidió emprender una carrera musical y en 1993 debutó con el álbum "Pure pleasure". El remix del clásico de ska "Oh Carolina" fue un éxito instantáneo en Inglaterra y en otros países. El siguiente trabajo, "Boombastic" (1995) ganó un Grammy en 1996 a Mejor Álbum de Reggae y subió al top de numerosas listas, entre ellas, Billboard 200. En 1996 creó su propio sello musical, Big Yard Music Group y grabó su tercera entrega, "Midnight lover" (1997). En 2001 regresó con "Hotshot", un álbum que alcanzó el Diamante en todo el mundo y el séxtuple platino en Estados Unidos. Entre sus singles más destacados figuran "It wasn"t me" (nominado al Grammy) y "Angel". La canción "Luv me, luve me" junto a Janet Jackson se incluyó en la banda sonora de la película "How Stella Got Her Groove Back". En 2002 Shaggy publicó "Lucky day" y en 2005 salió "Clothes drop" (nominado a un Grammy como Mejor Álbum de Reggae). Después, entró en el estudio para registrar "Intoxication" (2007) y debutó en el número 1 de las listas Billboard de Reggae. El primer single, "Church heathen" llegó a la cima de varias listas de éxito, al igual que el siguiente, "Bonafide girl". Ese mismo año grabó "Feel the rush" que se utilizó como himno de la UEFA para la Eurocopa. Animado por el éxito de sus negocios y de su música, adoptó el papel de filántropo y empezó a hacer donaciones de equipos médicos y visitas al Hospital Infantil Bustamante en Jamaica. Con el tiempo nació Shaggy Foundation, que ha aportado millones de dólares al centro hospitalario.
