The Maccabees

The Maccabees

The Maccabees are an English indie band, based in Brighton and originally from south London. They have released one album so far, Colour It In, and are currently writing material for the follow-up, which is expected to be release in early 2009. There is also an American band with the same name.[citation needed] The band came up with the name by flicking through the Bible and picking out a random word.. Despite adopting a name with religious connotations, lead singer Orlando Weeks has more recently affirmed, in an interview on Steve Lamacq's BBC Radio 1 show, that none of the band are religious. Their debut single, 'X-Ray', was released on Promise records on 28 November 2005, and received some evening play on London radio station Xfm London. They received little significant exposure, however, until six months later, when they released their second single, 'Latchmere', the subject of which is the wave machine at the Latchmere Leisure Centre in Battersea, South London[citation needed], on Fierce Panda Records in April 2006. This was championed by Radio 1 DJ Steve Lamacq and received airtime on MTV2. The video, directed by Hugh (Sportsday Megaphone)Frost and Samuel Bebbington, also proved an internet hit after it was posted on YouTube.

Letra de One Hand Holding
o love i was torn, i was torn
but i put those thorns away
and im just a thorn with a grudge look kind ???
and thoughts a behind me
o why would you be late to .... ???
o why would you be late by a year long ???

why would you kill it, kill it, kill it, before it dies
why would you kill it, kill it, kill it, before it dies
those puppy eyes are no suprise

when there's a devil in the door way
heaven in the hallway
say you still ador me
and im far out on an ocean
trapped in a disaster
say i still ador you

o why would you carry on the name ???
o why would you carry on the same

why would you kill it, kill it, kill it, before it dies
why would you kill it, kill it, kill it, before it dies
those pure eyes dont look the same
sthe same, the same as they used to do

alot like the eyes, the eyes, the eyes
I was making you, I was making you, I was making you

it was torn up and now its all right, all right
it was torn up, all right
it was torn up and now its all right, all right
it was torn up, all right
