The Young Dubliners is an Irish rock band. Their repertoire consists largely of Irish folk songs and Irish pop with a rock twist: "The Pogues meets Van Halen", as the Los Angeles press once described their sound.[citation needed] Their influences include The Pogues, Waterboys and U2. It is also likely that they were inspired by the success of Hothouse Flowers,[original research?] whose members included a college-era friend of Young Dubliners cofounder Keith Roberts, and their live shows featured numerous Hothouse Flowers in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The Young Dubliners were founded in 1988 by Dublin natives Keith Roberts and Paul O?Toole. In those days, their home venue was the Irish Rover in Santa Monica, CA. Their shows were recorded by their soundman, Rob McCulley. Based on these recordings, the Young Dubliners produced their first original song, "Keaton?s Bar", and a cassette tape of Irish folk and pop songs recorded live at the Irish Rover entitled "The Young Dubliners".
